You can cut down the encyclopedia list by using a number of various filters located on the Filter tab. With the help of this tab you can filter the encyclopedia’s entries according to any criteria concerning the species’ characteristics. You can also use added groups and User Sets as a group Filter. |
There are following filters available:
- Groups. You can filter information by the type, User Set or an added group.
- Size. Choose the range of species’ sizes by using sliders.
- Depth. You can sort species by the depths they live in by choosing the markers located on the bottom profile.
- Activity. Select activities by clicking suitable icons.
- Employments. Select possible employments for a given species from the list.
- Danger. Select the type of danger to single out harmful species.
- CITES. With this filter you can select only the species that are included in the CITES (http://www.cites.org/). You can choose a number of species you want to include into the CITES or exclude the CITES species from your Encyclopedia list. CITES (the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of wild Flora and Fauna) is an international agreement between the Governments of different countries. Its aim is to ensure that the international trade in wild animals and plants does not threaten their survival.
Appendix I contains the list of endangered animals. The trade in these animals is permitted only on exceptional occasions.
Appendix II includes the species, the trade in which must be strictly controlled in order to prevent their complete extermination.
Appendix III contains the species that are protected at least in one country, which receives support from a CITES Party in order to control the trade in these animals.
By selecting filter criteria from the list of the filter types you may shorten the encyclopedia list. However if you choose only some of the criteria from the same filter group, you will thus enlarge the encyclopedia list, because in this case the number of the criteria will be extended.
The Group filter also includes another extensive filter named “Qualifier”. It allows to specify more criteria for a selected group.
Qualifier
 |
From the Group filter you can get an access to the Qualifier, which will help you to define a selected species more precisely. By clicking on the selected group with the right mouse button you will open a new filter window containing a large number of additional criteria for the selected group of species. |
Here you can define the selected group using only the features that you like. For instance, if you open the qualifier for the Fish group, unroll the Body branch of the tree and click on the Flat Bodies’ icon, you will filter only fish with flat body.
If you add one more body type, the number of included species will enlarge, because in this case you filter out fish of two body types. Adding more criteria from different branches will decrease the number of returned species because you are now searching for species that match all of these criteria simultaneously.
At the right-hand side of the window all the additional criteria can be stored under the group icon. By default settings they are all marked with a green plus sign, which means that they are all active. By clicking on this sign you can make this criterion inactive, changing the green plus into red minus.
There are three buttons at the bottom of the Qualifier panel:
- Apply. Apply section.
- Reset. Cancel all changes.
- Close. Close the panel.
Note. User Sets, which are included into the Group filter frame, do not possess any filtering capability. By clicking on the added set you can only delete it from the filter list by choosing “remove group” from the Filter item.
